Farewell to the Space Shuttle – 21st July 2011
Today, the final US Space Shuttle, Atlantis, landed safely, bringing to an end 30 years of space travel and 135 missions since the first launch in 1981.
Here’s how it was seen on Twitter:
The Space Shuttle’s missions may be over. It will never be forgotten.
Thanks for the mention Phil. I vaugely remember the first launch being on TV at school in 1981 as a special treat but I don’t remember taking much notice. I was in my last year of junior school then, just as my daughter is right now – a strange mirroring of generations. The Shuttle was certainly an amazing bit of engineering and it is sad to see it go.
