Mum’s birthday meal – 21st June 2013

Adrian, Heather and I celebrated Mum’s birthday by taking her for another meal at the Bird in Hand, on the longest day of the year.

It was the same location that we visited last year, but we’d enjoyed our evening then and decided to return.

We were given a good seat in the restaurant, albeit next to a window with warning signs attached to it proclaiming that it should not be opened as it was broken!

The food presentation and taste were very good.

For starters we all opted for the melon.

On a slightly muggy evening, the melon and strawberries were refreshingly cool and enjoyable.

For main course, Mum and I both chose the chicken.

This was also enjoyable, although a little more potato wouldn’t have gone amiss.  Obviously some carrots would have been equally well received!

For pudding we all selected something different from the menu.

Mum had the Sweet & Intense Raspberry Crème Brulee; Heather plumped for the Strawberry Pavlova with Vanilla Ice Cream, Chantilly & Mixed Berries Coulis; Adrian picked the Zingy Lemon Cheesecake with Clotted Cream & Berry Coulis while I decided on the Dark Belgian Chocolate Marquise with Ice Cream.  All of our choices were delicious.

As usual, much of our talk around the table was recalling events of the past and the time passed quickly and happily together.

Before we left, our waiter kindly offered to take a photo of the four of us.

Whether we’ll make it back for a third year in a row remains to be seen.
