Splashing in puddles – 29th April 2012

Sometimes, there’s nothing better to do on a wet day than to splash in puddles!

April walk to Cookham Dean – 28th April 2012

After what felt like a month of rain, Rebekah and I headed out on an inevitably wet afternoon, to complete our April walk to Cookham Dean.

A brief catch up – 27th April 2012

I haven’t been over to Woking since the emotional roller-coaster of my last day, back at the end of March.

Today I got a chance to head over after work, primarily to collect some of my personal effects from my ‘former life’, but also to catch up with some of the old crowd again – particularly with it also being Sam’s birthday!

Alan Stone also came over to join the party and I was able go with him and Sam on a ‘circuit’.  It was interesting to spot the changes, both in the work being carried out in the Town Square and also with different shops, although disappointing to note that there were a couple more closures to report – the shoe shop Stead and Simpson and luggage retailer Charlotte Reid.

After completing the circuit we ended up, with many others, in O’Neill’s for a quick drink.  Apologies for the quality of my antique Nokia N85 camera!

Fortunately the farewells this time weren’t as raw and emotional as they were a month ago and hopefully I’ll be able to get over to Woking again soon.

Sarah’s birthday meal – 15th April 2012

Today Sarah celebrated her 37th birthday.

Unlike last year, when we went out for the day, this year the celebrations were somewhat more low-key.  With church in the morning and visiting relations in the afternoon, it wasn’t until the evening that we were able to enjoy a meal at Pizza Express.

We decided to opt for starters and I enjoyed my traditional favourite of dough balls.

Dough balls!

The main course proved more of a challenge.  I decided to bravely forego my standard choice of lasagne for something which sounded, on the face of it, quite nice – Meatball bolognaise.

Even as I ordered, Sarah questioned my choice, pointing out that my proposed dish contained ‘fiery roquito peppers’.  I naively brushed aside her concerns, saying that I could easily avoid them.  One day I’ll learn to listen to her!

A ridiculous menu faux pas

I battled through about a quarter of the pizza before being defeated by the peppers.

While we were waiting for the desserts to arrive, I took a few photos of the girls.

Emily getting excited

Eventually our various, mainly chocolatey puddings turned up.  Emily was a little disappointed to spot the strawberry on top of hers – she’s not a fan!

Once the offending fruit had been removed and passed on to Rebekah, Emily enjoyed her dessert.

I also opted for a chocolate pudding.

Chocolate cake and ice cream

It was an enjoyable meal (despite the fiery peppers!) and it was good to get out to enjoy it with the family.

Happy Birthday Sarah!
