Forty-six year old Christian happily negotiating the world with a wife and three daughters
Throughout the winter we have been plagued with the question ‘When will it snow?’ – today we found out the answer.
Some 8cm fell during the night, leaving the ground, this morning, covered with a carpet of white. Needless to say, the girls were up much earlier than on a normal Sunday and were dressed in record time, eager to get out of the house.
With the temperature already above freezing, speed did appear to be of the essence and we hastened outside with the trees already dripping with melting snow.
The girls enjoyed being pulled around on their sledge while I was commissioned to build a snowman!
The snow was of a perfect consistency for snowman construction and we managed to build something somewhat taller and wider than last year’s effort.
Later, the girls met up with their friend Nathan at church and were able to have a ride on a bigger sledge.
After lunch, Rebekah and I went over to Mum’s to clear some of the snow from her driveway and see how the vegetable plot was coping with the inclement weather.
The cold weather looks set to persist for at least the rest of the week.
With snow forecast in Maidenhead for overnight tonight, the first flakes duly arrived at around 5pm this evening, prompting much excitement among the younger members of the family.
By 9pm, the conditions outside had deteriorated somewhat, with snow continuing to fall and the roads suffering as a result.
By 11pm, some 6cm of snow had fallen.
We went out with Sarah’s parents to the recently refurbished Farmers Boy, which has recently reopened as a Greene King Meet and Eat Pub, in celebration of her Mum’s 60th birthday.
The Farmers Boy consists of tables set out around a central bar area. The pub was quite busy, being a Saturday night, and some of the language eminating from the bar area was a little ‘choice’ – particularly for young ears!
The food on offer is typical ‘pub’ fare with a range including burgers, fish and chips and lasagne etc.
Sarah opted for a burger, while I selected the bangers and mash.
The food arrived after a few minutes and was actually pretty tasty – albeit being served on cold plates!
We opted to have dessert and I chose the chocolate fudge cake and ice-cream.
Perhaps the best moment of the evening was the reply from the waiter below to a question asking him for a teaspoon for Emily.
'Have you got a teaspoon please?' 'That's the small one for sugar, isn't it?' #worrying #highIQ

Overall, despite the food being tasty, I wouldn’t say it’s the best setting – particularly with children. The close proximity of the bar means that wherever you sit in the pub, it’s likely to be fairly noisy.
I’m not sure that I’ll be rushing to return.
This afternoon we had a short walk down at Braywick Park.
Although there aren’t yet many signs of life on the trees there, the daffodils are providing a welcome splash of colour following the dull days of winter.
