#BBCblackout – 29th March 2011
At about 11pm this evening the BBC website went offline. Here’s how things unfolded:
Gosh, the BBC website is down…hope our nuclear sub commanders keep calm

#BBC website down http://www.bbc.co.uk/news

Hmm, no connection to the BBC's website – server downtime, or a Burdett Towers internet issue?
— Andrew Burdett (@AndrewBurdett1) March 29, 2011
Someone seems to have unplugged the @BBC – bet it's that cleaner with her hoover again!
— BurtonWeb (@BurtonWeb) March 29, 2011
Apologies if you are trying to use our website or listen online. Not yet clear when normal service will resume. #bbc

Ha bloomin' ha RT @emilybell: BBC website really is down….they must be trying to install a paywall
— Robert Peston (@Peston) March 29, 2011
My colleagues blame me for BBC system meltdown. Apparently there was too much really dull info in blog I tried 2 publish. Computer said no.

Lying in bed reading twitter in the dark and trying to remember where I put my "how to switch the BBC website back on" manual

It hasn't taken long for #BBCblackout to start trending. #BBC
— Phil Bray (@PhilBray) March 29, 2011
We're all very sorry. Actually we're very cross RT @PeterHorrocks1: We have technical problems with BBC website. Apologies from BBC News.
— Robert Peston (@Peston) March 29, 2011
The big question – what's the hashtag? #bbcblackout
— Rory Cellan-Jones (@ruskin147) March 29, 2011
#bbcfail #bbcblackout >> RT @leguape: @AasmahMir It can only mean one thing: Peter Allen has taken control.
— BBC Radio 5 live (@bbc5live) March 29, 2011
UPDATE: RT @AasmahMir Peter Allen couldn't possibly have taken control. He needs me to turn his computer on every day. #bbcblackout #bbcfail
— BBC Radio 5 live (@bbc5live) March 29, 2011
Our website is working again. Read national press for details. #bbcfail #bbcblackout

Phew – turning it off and on again worked. Lucky nobody noticed it was down…
— Rory Cellan-Jones (@ruskin147) March 29, 2011
Bit disappointing we're back online. I was rather enjoying the simpler pleasures in life. Bit like the lights going on after blackout
